The Story of Asaro Farms
The Asaro Family Farm is located in the heart of the Valle del Belice in Sicily. The history of this place is as rich as its soil, continuing to grow the highest volume of Nocellara del Belice olives in the world. These olives carry traditions that are over 2,700 years old – and the Asaro family has been nurturing and pressing these bright green fruits for hundreds of years.
In 2005, after witnessing four generations of agricultural production within his family, Tommaso Asaro decided to take over all the acres of Asaro farmland. His mission was to implement modern farming methods to cultivate the best quality oils and essences from the native Nocellara, Cerasuola, and Biancolillis olive trees that grew there. Tommaso’s passion for perfection and excellence make his farming techniques stand out from others in the region, and reinvigorated the standards and the soils throughout the entire Asaro farmland.
During this time of reinvention the Asaro Farm was immediately converted into an all organic landscape, maintaining the philosophy that all products are to be non-gmo and completely chemical free. This new notion serves to make the Asaro farms completely sustainable, and farm to table – ensuring no harm to the environment during processing, and that in fact, we are enriching the historical land we grow on. All our olives are manually harvested by the same hands that pick them – and most oils are pressed almost immediately after their collection. This is unique to our Asaro family farm, and so our extra virgin olive oils carry with them the flavor of the land as well as the history of Sicily and the families that have lived there.
The ancient territory of Castelvetrano is the homeland of Olive oil itself. It is both the birthplace of the Nocellara del Belice (or castelvetrano) olive, as well as the birthplace of those that grow them. And it is this unique relationship between land and produce that make the Asaro Farm so special and its mission to bring the taste of Sicily to the world so meaningful!
